Sylvan Heights

This has been a very big weekend for me!  Yesterday was not only the Carolina v. Duke Game, but was also my trip to Scotland Neck’s best kept secret: Sylvan Heights Water Fowl Park and Eco Center! 

Sylvan Heights is a beautiful park nestled behind fields of farm land in a small town in North Carolina.  It offers an intimate experience with endangered, exotic and beautiful birds from all around the world.  The habitats are beautifully done and integrated into the natural woods of the park, and other than some serious looking photographers and a few kids the park is never very crowded. 

While we were there we were lucky to catch a courtship dance of a Great Argus Pheasant.

There are also two wild turkeys from the neighboring woods (they came out of the "woodwork" as it were) that wander the park, typically circling the domestic turkey exhibit.
